A very good morning to you all! Firstly, let me start by wishing you all a happy New Year and a warm welcome to 2009. I hope that if you were able to take a break over the holiday period that you had a relaxing time away. :) The 2009 MacWorld draws to a close the 'Keynote tradition' at Apple and this year was the last we will experience this kind of event. While Steve Jobs was unfortunately not present, Apple did release some interesting new features in their iApps rev along with the long awaited 17" Notebook revamp - neatly plugging the hole previously left at the top end of the portable range from the last revision. On that note we'll kick off this morning with the hardware release.
MacBook Pro 17"... Aside from the usually expected increase in overall spec there have been some key additions released in the new 17" model. (I have to say, encased in the same beautiful unibody enclosure as the 15" unit, the new 17" looks absolutely stunning.) In the standard offering we have a 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 4GB of RAM in a 2x2GB configuration and a 320GB Hard Drive. What really brings this unit up to the plate are the configure to order options that are now available. With a serious slant on speed you're able to customise this particular model of MacBook Pro with a 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 8GB of 1066MHz RAM in a 2x4GB configuration and, to really pump up performance, 256GB in the Solid State Drive options. For those people who preferred the look and feel of a Non-Glossy screen, there is also an upgrade option from the standard Glossy display to a Hi-Resolution Antiglare screen. Batteries up! In a surprise announcement Apple have released a totally new battery specifically for the MacBook Pro 17" that delivers a reported 8 hours of use and a lifespan of up to 1000 recharge cycles. By doing away with the more traditional offering a new Apple-designed technology called 'Adaptive Charge' has been introduced which sees a microchip in the battery itself communicating with the computer to determine the optimal way to charge its cells. |
